In the following guide below you will find leisure activities that can make a poor weather day a pure holiday experience. Enjoy an unforgettable holiday with family!
Sightseeing in the Heart of Tyrol
Innsbruck, a place of diversity
The Tyrolean capital city Innsbruck has evolved historically, where the rulers of the Imperial and Royal Monarchy since their first heyday around 1500 realised their creative ideas. Structures from the Gothic period, the Renaissance, Baroque period and the Classical period invite visitors on a trip into the past. The “Golden Roof”, the “Black Men” at the Hofkirche, the Hofburg (Imperial Court of Innsbruck) and the Castle Ambras are all certainly worth a visit.
Shop till you drop: in the heart of the city the newly designed Maria Theresien street is inviting for some window shopping. Enjoy your shopping experience at the Rathausgalerien or at the Kaufhaus Tyrol. Or you can visit the many small shops located in the old town of Innsbruck.
Hall in Tirol
A pulsating small town full of life
One of the most beautiful towns in Tyrol can be found on a “discovery trip” to the medieval Hall in Tyrol. One of the best preserved old towns in Austria – and as it happens it is even larger than the old town in Innsbruck – forms a successful symbiosis of modern architectural concepts such as the Salzlager (old salt warehouse), the new university UMIT or the Park Hotel.
The tasteful buildings of Hall’s old town point to the past of a prosperous city: during the middle ages Hall was one of the most important commercial places for salt production in the north of Tyrol. These days, Hall is a vibrant small town full of life where one can experience a diverse shopping experience and warm hospitality between historic walls.
Hint!: Visit the Morgenbrot cafe on Krippgasse. Allow your tired legs to recover in the pleasant ambience and enjoy the different types of waffles with a warm cup of coffee – home roasted of course. In addition you will be spoiled by our daughter Stefanie and son in law Delil. See below!
Waffles
Sweet and savoury
Waffles….mmmm yummy! Who doesn’t love them! Plus there are so many different ways to enjoy them. Starting with the various doughs (light, chocolate or vegan), we offer numerous toppings, such as strawberries, bananas, Amarena cherries, chocolate pearls, cracknel and many more. The waffle can then be refined with your favourite sauce. Or should that be several sauces? Choose and tick your favourite sauce(s) from our list – you decide exactly what should go on your waffle.
Those who prefer something more salty can choose from a savoury variety on our menu.
For example our Italian waffle with rocket, Parmesan flakes and Parma ham. A small salad is always included.
Swarovski Crystal World
Let’s sparkle!
The famous giant at the entrance to the Swarovski Crystal World in Wattens has enormous appeal, and he also understands how to inspire new attractions. 2015 brought a new era of wonder, as the giant now has five new grandiose Chambers of Wonder and is set in a parkland with unique art installations and new structures. The center point of this
fantastically designed garden is the mystical Crystal Cloud, made from 600,000 sparkling Swarovski crystals that float above the Mirror Pool. At Swarovski not only do the crystals sparkle, but also the children’s eyes. An exciting play tower with four floors leads to an unforgettable wonder world, where even floating is possible. In the evenings, the tower appears spectacularly lit up.
Silver Mines in Schwaz
Follow in the footsteps of miners
The “mother of all mines” promises to be an exciting trip into the history of Europe. The largest silver mine from the middle ages is “The” attraction in Tyrol and is open daily for visits. After the 800 meter entrance on the “Grubenbahn”, an extraordinary experience awaits you underground. Follow in the footsteps of the miners who for over 500 years mined silver and copper, and let yourself be carried away to a time when the earth was still considered flat…
In the heat of the summer, discover the wonderful coolness in the silver mine, where inside the temperature is a constant 12°C. The Schwazer silver mine is the right choice as an excursion for the whole family and especially for a poor weather day – inside the mountain you will always keep dry.
Ötzi Village in Umhausen
Ötzi and his world
Another cultural centre is the Ötzi village in Umhausen located in the Ötztal or Ötz valley. Here various artefacts older than 4000 BC can be found on display which allow you a glimpse into life before our time.
In 1991 the Iceman “Ötzi” was found in the Ötztal glacier and since then is an important archaeological flagship for the Ötztal.
The Ötzi village in one of the best excursions for the whole family. There are many different courses for both young and old, from making bows to instruction in survival. A visit to the Ötzi village can also incorporate a visit to the Stuibenfall, the largest waterfall in Tyrol. Both cultural destinations are located very close to one another.
StuBay
Dive into some water-filled fun
Harmoniously set in the Stubai Valley is the StuBay leisure center. With over 5,000 square meters, you will find the perfect conditions for invigorating rejuvenation and refreshing bathing. Here you can simply swim away from everyday life.
